Schleiermacher, along with many other early modern scholars who interpreted the religiosity and philosophy of antiquity, interpreted these things within a progressivist, dualist, and/or materialist Christian framework. These biases, of course, are all the familiar charges that were levied against both Jews and Christians by the writers of antiquity, from at least the time of Manetho.
