Magic, neuroscience..? Total confusion. Hope this helps someone out there.
Last fall, I was diagnosed with moderate-to-severe hearing loss in my right ear. A total surprise.
The damage was primarily in the upper frequencies — including the soprano range.
Following that, I had an MRI of my brain and saw three ENTs and two audiologists trying to understand what had happened. Each told me the hearing loss was permanent.
I’ve been trying to make sense of it ever since. To adapt. To grieve it. To figure out what comes next.
I am a singer and professional speaker. It’s been hard.
Yesterday, I had another hearing test.
That loss is essentially gone.
My right and left ears are now functioning almost identically. My audiologist told me she has never seen this happen before.
Over these past months, I’ve been doing many things in hopes of helping my ear and nervous system — and I’ll write more when I understand more. I have additional testing coming up in the next few weeks.
But for now, I simply want to say this:
Strange things happen. Healing is sometimes more mysterious than we realize. Neuroplasticity means capacity for change. And sometimes… things do change. I am still stunned.
Another photo from my retreat last weekend. ✨ Feeling grateful.
