🟢Scarborough Southwest Has Spoken. Meet Ahsanul Hafiz.🟢

By Annie Koshy

In a contested four-way nomination race that drew significant provincial and national attention, Ahsanul Hafiz has won the Ontario Liberal nomination for Scarborough Southwest. The result was not a foregone conclusion. Hafiz and fellow candidate Qadira Jackson ran a coordinated first and second choice strategy specifically designed to block Nate Erskine-Smith from securing the nomination, and it worked. Democracy, contested and messy and real, produced a result that reflects the will of the riding’s Liberal members.

So who is Ahsanul Hafiz?

He is someone whose story is rooted in exactly the kind of experience that Scarborough Southwest represents. Originally from Bangladesh, Hafiz came to Canada as an international student and built a life here. He now operates 30 Domino’s Pizza franchise locations across Ontario, employing hundreds of people and building a business from the ground up in the country that gave him the opportunity to do so. He is not a career politician. He is a community builder who understands what it means to arrive in this country with ambition, work hard and create something that gives back to the people around him.

His candidacy is a statement about what Ontario’s Liberal Party can and should look like as it rebuilds. Scarborough is one of the most diverse communities in Canada. It deserves representation that reflects that diversity not as a talking point but as a lived reality. Hafiz brings that authenticity to the role in a way that cannot be manufactured or borrowed from another riding.

The by-election in Scarborough Southwest must be called by August 3 with election day no later than September 3. Premier Ford controls the timing within that window. Whatever date he chooses, Ahsanul Hafiz will be on the ballot as the Ontario Liberal candidate, carrying the mandate of a community that came out, voted and made itself heard.

Congratulations. The work starts now. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🏅
