Noting that based on a few recent conversations with non-specialists about “AI and consciousness” that there is a presumption that the positive claim is inflationary of AI, that AI is claimed to possess the ephemeral special sauce that makes humans conscious, whereas its usually rather the opposite, that “you too are a stochastic parrot, there is no special sauce.” It’s not that the calculator has soul but that animal brains are also “just statistics”. That’s a harder pill to swallow I realize.
