I love this theme because it’s about my passion for hand-making textiles for others who I love. These entries are a good cross-section of what I’ve made by hand-knitting or crocheting, on manual knitting looms, and on hand-crank knitting looms.
It’s how I share part of me with loved ones, family, and friends. It’s also what I do to disappear and forget life for a time.
I generally start with a free pattern to make a test piece and then alter it for a final custom piece.
The last 2 photos are of a Covid-era project which I designed and made 100% custom for my oldest son. I wanted to make him a ‘quilt’ by hand, putting love and support into each of the hand-crocheted ~9,600 stitches. This has been my magnum opus thus far, especially challenging because it’s made in horizontal stitch rows with color changes shown on my hand sketched pattern. I didn’t have a ladder of the right size to fit in the frame due to ceiling height. Finished quilt is 94x106 inches.
Passion Projects could include creative pursuits, hobbies, volunteer work, or any activity that brings you joy and fulfillment or something that gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling.
