The primary tool we have used to survive for two hundred thousand years is social collaboration
So, any tool that promises individual empowerment - whether it be using ChatGPT for emotional advice, through to using a loop pedal to be a one-man band - will also dissolve relationships of collaboration that were previously required to achieve the same thing
I’m not judging whether that is good or not - I personally use loop pedals to create music, for example - but let’s be frank about it: we live in a society in which the peer-to-peer relationships with each other are, over time, systematically replaced with relationships to tools controlled by centralized corporations
So, the next time you face such as tool, ask yourself, what social collaboration do I lose from using this?
