It would be better if Democrats tried to win these culture-war fights rather than duck them. But before they do that, they have to designate their own martyrs and heels. They have to shake off self-doubt, which tells them their imprint on the culture is censorious and uncivil, and instead claim good parts of the culture for themselves. Rob Reiner would support making Republicans vote on a resolution commemorating his contributions to American culture, and condemning all those who celebrated his murder. It’s what he would’ve wanted.
