The new Republican taunt, calling James Talarico trans, is (yes) bait designed to trap or divide the left. But it's also a witch hunt in the classic sense of the term. A dangerous escalation of degenerate MAGA politics. And something Dems should address muscularly.

The main idea, though, is not to be so scared of culture-war provocations that you convey you can be bullied into silence. The actual text of this attack is that Talarico isn’t a real man, and if he refuses to stand up for himself, some voters will surely interpret him to be conceding the point.
