Jesus refused to be a political Messiah to “Make Israel Great Again”—even though this was exactly what everyone expected. Jesus was serious when he told Pilate, “My kingdom is not from this world.” Jesus’ kingdom is not from the fallen world of political pharaohs and imperial Caesars—it comes from heaven as the radical alternative to the world as it is. Sadly, too many spiritual leaders (then and now) cravenly confess, “We have no king but Caesar.”
