Listening to Malcolm Guite quote a book by G.K. Chesterton about Thomas Aquinas makes me realize what the point of the written word is—that it turns all of history into one long conversation, where men separated by centuries can sit together and trade ideas.
And to my great delight, we’re allowed to listen in on that conversation. Why would anyone choose not to read?
