When I was writing the first Grumble and Gasp book, I used to daydream, like I think most authors do, about what it might look like as a movie or a streaming show.
Then I’d laugh it off.
Because let’s be honest… the story is weird. Medieval marginalia creatures. Whimsical nonsense. Anthropomorphic animals behaving very badly. It didn’t exactly scream “mainstream appeal.”
But lately the wife and I have been watching the live-action One Piece show.
And y’all…
It is just as weird, if not weirder, than anything running around in the Illuminated Earth.
And not only does it exist… it’s wildly popular. Not just with anime fans, but with normal, everyday people who have decided they’re perfectly fine watching rubber pirates punch sea monsters.
So, who knows, maybe there’s hope one day for a geriatric knight, a crow who talks in a thousand voices, a horse sized flatulent dog, and a goose-dragon.
