They calculate, collect, and remit VAT in 100+ countries on your behalf. That's what the 10% pays for.

Stripe is a payment processor.

When you use Stripe payment links, YOU are the Merchant of Record. Every country, every tax rate, your problem.

And Substack itself? It does not collect or remit VAT either. Not for paid subscriptions. You’re responsible for that.
