Thanks for the suggestions! I’m with you on Cao Cao -- 短歌行 is probably too long to do here in Notes, but it’s something I’d like to give a full treatment at some point. Tangentially related, I’ve been working on a longer post for the Substack about the image of the 銅雀台 in poetry, which I first got interested in because of the opening poem in the Chongzhen-era edition of 金瓶梅.

Have to admit that I’ve always had a hard time enjoying Mao’s poetry (or Churchill’s prose, for that matter; both men were successful products of the elite humanistic education of their day, but I’m not sure they were all that much more talented than average) -- but there are a couple Su Dongpo things I’ve been thinking about doing. I think 詞 might be a bit more fun to translate than 近體詩, too, and I have a few comic Yuan 曲 that should help liven things up a bit.
