digital detox diaries continued:
•caved last night and got back on TikTok because i had some video ideas for YouTube shorts and TikTok just has a great audio clip selection and is easy for me to use. was enjoying being back on it all last night. spent a lot of today fighting temptation to not scroll with family. then I started getting videos about the AI bubble bursting and was like “yeah no i just like this in small doses” and deleted the app. may keep my profile around to make videos when inspired or until i find another video app i like better, TBD
• was interested in a service that a business was providing, but their before and after results were primarily on their social media so I had to go on my husband’s Instagram to check it out because you can’t just look at profiles without a profile yourself and it made me mad that accessibility for things is so tied to social media. also was a little bit sad because Instagram is primarily where I kept up with other mom friends, but you can’t reactivate your Instagram profile and then turn around and deactivate it again, you have to wait a week so I’m not opening up that Pandora’s box right now.
•was trying to look at buying a used gaming console and couldn’t really find anything online so I got back on Facebook to check out marketplace and also check in on my homeowners group and my daughter’s school group and was promptly greeted with about three horrifying news headlines so that was a jumpscare.
promptly deactivated again and here we are 😅
i love and hate that so much accessibility and connection is wrapped up in social media. it’s a frustrating balance to try and strike.
thank GOD for substack right now
