Vogue Italia’s 1997 editorial “An Interpretation,” inspired by the works of American painter Alex Katz.

“Nature and artifice follow one another in Katz’s paintings, just as they do in the photographs of this editorial. Living tableaux in which real people either fit seamlessly into an almost virtual reality or deliberately stand in contrast to an entirely unreal setting.

Still images capturing moments and situations that differ from one another—snapshots reflecting attitudes and lifestyles that are sometimes completely opposed. As diverse as the styles of fashion, which today more than ever impose no strict rules, but instead suggest ways of being.”
