There are a lot of people, both on Twitter and on Substack, piling on this guy, and the only reason I can see for this is that he is telling the truth about things in a way that others don’t want to admit is true for themselves.

I’m not a white nationalist or right-wing (for f***ing obvious reasons) – but I resonate strongly resonate with much of what he says here – especially ‘seeking out adventure’, working with other young guys to disruptively impact political culture, and finding rural normals to be incredibly stifling.

I suspect I relate so strongly, too, because I share much of his personality: ridiculously high openness (99th%ile), high extraversion (76th%ile), low conscientiousness (26%ile, medium agreeableness (53%ile).

Any ambitious young weirdo craves the type of conviviality that is present in this type of environment; the well-meaning jostling you get from male peers who encourage you to rise up; and the profound and intimate mentorship from older men who care about you.

There’s not much of a difference (in terms of activity and relationship, not substance) between what this guy describes and joining a startup or building a new technology – style, intellect, challenge, risk.

I have unending contempt towards those who are trying to present this as, “Hurr, durr, the silly affluent white boy is realizing he didn’t fit in outside of cosmopolitan civilization, what a dumbass.

I think what these people can’t stand the most is that he isn’t willing to be ashamed of what he did or who he is; he is proud of the time he invested in to something he cared about, is humble enough to admit where he failed, and joyful to move forward to better things.
