A Conversation with Nature
Me: Dear Nature, how much do you love me?
Nature: I love everyone equally. The rivers do not choose who may drink. The wind does not choose whose face it may touch. The sun does not shine for a few. There are no favourites in my heart.
Me: Dear Nature, how much do you respect me?
Nature: I respect those who love me. Respect is not demanded from me, it is reflected back to you. When you walk gently upon the earth, when you care for the trees and the waters, my respect quietly surrounds you.
Me: How benevolent are you?
Nature: Oh dear child, you should know this by now. Benevolence is my second nature. I feed you through the soil, comfort you through the breeze, and heal you through silence. Even when you forget me, I continue to give.
Me: Dear Nature, how controlling are you?
Nature: I never believed in control. Freedom is part of my design. My task is only to restore balance when something goes out of control. Storms, floods, winds, and fires are not anger. They are my way of bringing harmony back to the world.
Me: Dear Nature, do you weep or grieve?
Nature: In the past, I never did. There was no reason for grief. Forests grew freely, rivers sang without interruption, and the sky breathed clearly. Now I grieve every single day. I watch my forests fall, my oceans choke, and my creatures disappear. Sometimes I wonder what will happen to you if I am slowly and systematically destroyed.
Me: Dear Nature, I fear for you and for myself.
Nature: Do not fear for me, my child. I carry powers older than mountains and deeper than oceans. I know how to heal. I know how to return. What you should fear is forgetting that you belong to me.
Me: Then why do you wait so patiently?
Nature: Because patience is my oldest wisdom. I have watched civilizations rise and disappear like waves upon the shore. I am waiting for you to remember who you are. Not my master. Not my owner. But my child.
Me: And if we do remember?
Nature: Then the rivers will sing louder, the forests will breathe deeper, and the world will become gentle again. The earth has always had enough love for all of you. It only asks for a little love in return.
