Make money doing the work you believe in
Where do you thrive? Do you thrive singularly focused on one thing for the long term or multi-focused on multiple things or maybe even a combination of the two?
Here’s why this question is important: Too often in our society we’re taught that the first option is the standard: focusing on one calling, developing that one goal, committing to one talent, one role or personality aspect. And that’s ok. But what if that’s not how you’re wired?
What if you thrive in multitude or multi-potentiality? What if you thrive in range and breadth: multiple callings, multiple talents, roles and aspects. Not all at once but with the potentials there to pick up when the season and cycle is right? Or what if you thrive in singular focus for a season and then find your calling to expand? That should be ok too.
All too often we try to force each other into a specific model not realizing that when we do that for too long, we limit our path and how we show up. And that translates into a potential mismatch: trying to fit somewhere that doesn’t fit you and feeling too much wherever you are.
Instead, we should allow all the ways we thrive to co-exist, to breathe. If we thrive in multitude, that should be ok. If you ask a young kid what they want to be when they grow up and they tell you: a chemist, an archaeologist, and an astronaut, that should be ok. You may have a multi-potentialite on your hands — so let them explore, experiment and find their way in the multiple paths that call.
I think that’s what we owe ourselves now and to the new generations born and growing up in this era — a world where they can be themselves, exactly as they are and still thrive.
Here’s to creating a better world for them and us. 🤍💗
