This is a proposal to editors for how to manage a potential swelling of submissions, particularly to the field journals on down in economics. It lays out a simple accounting identity from a paper on the drivers of prison population growth (“stock-flow identity” and Little’s Law). And then just kind of walks through my opinions after the fact. Some of this is a different framing of my equilibrium analysis the other day, and some of it is just because I spoke with two editors of econ journals this week and walked away feeling like maybe it would be a service to be vocally recommend AI agents at the desk to help screen manuscripts so that the editorial board can discuss it and it not have to be something someone else did not feel comfortable saying aloud.
