I just emailed this article to our district’s superintendent. I think it’s a must read for anyone involved in K-12 education (parents, teachers, administrators).
Just last week, I had a conversation with my daughter’s teacher about her recent i-Ready diagnostic score. The teacher told me i-Ready is useless and to take my child’s result “with an enormous grain of salt” (direct quote). A few days later, we received an email from the district’s “Office of Assessment” stating that the i-Ready diagnostic tool “provides valuable information to teachers about your child's performance relative to grade-level expectations.”
Schools force it, teachers loathe it, and it’s making kids dumber. My investigation into the e-learning juggernaut "i-Ready" by Curriculum Associates is now live @
