Before my work in AI safety, I used to work and produce large-scale tech conferences.
One reason I didn’t like working big tech events was that the people behind the scenes making the event happen were usually 90% women.
Meanwhile, those being prepped and elevated on the stages were usually around 90% men.
I worked an AI conference last week and found the same dynamic — but the percentages were even more skewed.
The AI space needs more women being elevated. We need women on the stage sharing their perspectives. And we need more men working behind the scenes, contributing their logic and problem solving to the event.
AI events, just like AI development, need more balance.
