A recent poll showed that 41 percent of Americans now say they sympathise more with the Palestinians in the Middle East situation, while 36 percent sympathise more with the Israelis. Many had initially supported Israel after the horrors of October 7: at the end of 2023, 65 percent said Hamas bore a lot of responsibility for the war in Gaza. But with thousands of Palestinians killed, some now accuse Israel of genocide.
