I agree, that the patterns are almost intangible, Marx was right on many of his observations particularly on capitalism. However on ideology he failed or he ignored the understanding ideologies as standard are full of inversions and mystifiers that cause a false consciousness that Marx clearly knew and generally constructed to maintain a particular status quo, they are almost always defensive, while creating sympathies, and using science in defense of their position.
The contemporary historical and political period is in flux, in terms of academics can’t even agree that globalism is a thing or they point to it as being a constant since the silk road.
I agree the social, spiritual-moral and psychological chaos or maybe not chaos but the disorder that is increased by hyper uncertainty is born in the political economy of the last 4 decades, neoliberalism within the capitalist order has evolved to rely on crises after crises, its a way to, in what Naomi Klein describes a shock doctrine, crises makes the populace regress, it disorientates them, while the consistency exhausts to apathy.
The nation state is certainly disrupted and now flailing to keep the electorate interested. However, I think either the nation state will have to SECEDE from international treaties, supra-nationals and IGO’ or go resort to totalitarianism. Authoritarianism will not be enough it will have to be totalitarian, choice two is the mugs choice, so I am placing my stock on secession.
