I believe that not only cursive writing, but cursive writing with a pencil on scratchy low-quality paper helped kids learn to read and spell. That muscle effort plus the slow painstaking creation of each letter while saying the sound of the letter in your head or outloud—and then blending it into the next connected letter—how could this not be helpful?

Yet another example of the kind of coverage that is so distractingly wrong that it makes it hard to focus on the supposed bigger issue. I continue to be mystified by editors who feel they need to do stuff like this

“Dear Members of the Pulitzer Prize board,

My name is Emily Damari. I was held hostage in Gaza for over 500 days.

On the morning of October 7, I was at home in my small studio apartment in Kibbutz Kfar Aza when Hamas terrorists burst in, shot me and dragged me across the border into Gaza. I was one of 251 men, women, children, and elderl…

This made me emotional and simultaneously angry that even when we are slaughtered we have to share our story in detail to get sympathy, it’s so backwards

If you go into a bar and pay for a sign that says “fuck the Jews” and proudly show it everywhere and post it on your social media - you can expect that all of normal and polite society says fuck you back and wants nothing to do with you.

This isn’t cancel culture - this is you’re a vile pig.

I’ve been blown away by the quiet messages I’ve received — especially from people in the theater world — saying “Thank you for saying what I can’t.”

That’s exactly why I wrote Think Again: What I Learned in My Theater Board’s Gender Debate.

It’s not just about pronouns or policy — it’s about how to speak up persuasively when the stakes are…

The Twitter dumpster fire, explained

"Legislation is going to be required to change this so that we can have more innovation."

I'm all for amending Section 230 so that platforms that algorithmically boost or make revenue from boosting a post are liable for the content. But I also think that anti-trust enforcement would go a long way to fixing the concentration of social media without new legislation.

Zuckerberg should be never have been allowed to buy Instagram. For one example. Let's not get into the other mergers, like Kroger and Albertsons, in the works. I'm tired of the myth of economies of scale benefiting anyone but corporations, who end up with more pricing power.

Has anybody noticed that one of the most obvious indications that Trump is lying is his use of the word “Sir.” As in 75 countries have come to him begging, saying “Sir, please, don’t impose these tariffs. We want to make a deal.”

Now we know he lies like he breathes, but this one is a particular giveaway.

One of our best hopes is that all of the countries involved (that is all of them) say, “Sir, you can go screw yourself. We MIGHT consider coming back when the idiots who elected you throw out your sorry ass.”

One can dream.

China is trying to rally the EU to its side:

"China and the EU must fulfill their international responsibilities, jointly safeguard the trend of economic globalization and a fair international trade environment, and jointly resist unilateral and intimidating practices," Xi said during a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in the Chinese capital.

EU should tell Xi to stop helping Putin to destroy Europe. If he makes that promise and pulls all support, I think EU can work with China.…
