A founder hired a VP of Sales. Ninety days later, he was gone.

The founder called it a bad hire.

It was not a bad hire.

The VP walked into a company with no CRM discipline. No defined sales process. No agreement on what a qualified lead even looked like.

He tried to build the infrastructure. The founder pushed back. That is not how we do things here.

There was no how we do things here. There were habits dressed as culture. A founder's memory dressed as a business.

The role existed on paper. The operating system that supports the role did not.

If the role requires infrastructure that does not exist, build the infrastructure first.

Otherwise you are not hiring a VP. You are hiring a resignation.
