Whenever I return to US, I’m struck with how dirty it is. Especially cities. But to come back from Rhone valley, it’s even more striking.

Our cities are also ugly, at an architectural & aesthetic level

The US accepts a level of ugliness & bland that others wouldn’t. Especially given how wealthy we are.
