For the first two months of 2025, it seemed like we had co-presidents: Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

Musk was in the Oval Office conducting a press conference with Trump. He was sleeping at the White House as he worked with the Department of Government Efficiency to make drastic cuts to the federal workforce. He was traveling with Trump to Mar-a-Lago.

He was literally everywhere.

Two months later? Elon is nowhere. Trump never mentions him. He’s not seen at or around the White House. He’s virtually disappeared.

With the Musk experiment now officially ending, it’s worth assessing what, exactly, the billionaire businessman did — and whether it, well, worked.

Here’s the short version of my conclusion: Musk made claims he couldn’t deliver on — and created a whole hell of a lot of chaos for not all that much.
