Today’s reading from Genesis 15 struck me as odd. Since I raise cattle, I never thought of why Abram would even have a 3 year old heifer to sacrifice. A heifer is a female bovine that has not yet had a calf. Once they have calved, they are then referred to as a cow. Most heifers are bred between 12-14 months of age. So why would Abram have a 3-year-old heifer? I understand the significance of the 3 years, but I can’t help but think that Abram may not have been a very good cattleman.
