I think he is referring to himself w/ abbreviation (H-O instead of H-O-V-A).
Then legendary like Grateful Dead in terms of his talent of rapping w/ a Kool G Rap tie in the line before.
Lastly, rap (as an industry), and consequently, rappers are grateful he (jay z) is dead — metaphorically because the black album was supposed to be his retirement album.
