BREAKING: The Senate Republicans, on a 50-49 vote, just confirmed Emil Bove to be a federal judge on the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Bove, President Donald Trump’s former criminal defense lawyer and a Justice Department official who stands credibly accused of seeking repeatedly to undermine the rule of law, is a man whose actions should lead to his being disbarred — not being confirmed to a federal appeals court.
"To confirm Mr. Bove is a sacrilegious act against our democracy," Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said after the vote. "This is a dark, dark day ... and a dangerous nominee."
Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins voted against Bove, along with all Democrats. Sen. Bill Hagerty of Tennessee did not vote.
After Schumer spoke, Sen. Cory Booker admonished his colleagues: “I am expressing my deepest disappointment of this body, in its abdication of its responsibilities.”
