BREAKING: The Trump administration is suing Washington, D.C. over its ban on semi-automatic (AR-15) weapons.
The Justice Department's Civil Rights Division under Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon is seeking a court ruling that D.C.'s law "prohibiting registration of the AR-15 by law-abiding citizens violates the Second Amendment."
Law Dork reported in March that DOJ's Civil Rights Division was planning to engage in "Second Amendment rights litigation," and today's complaint makes clear that the new "Second Amendment Section" has been staffed up.
The complaint was submitted by several attorneys, led off by Dhillon and signed by Andrew Darlington, who previously was the director of the "Florida Office of Election Crimes and Security" and is listed on DOJ’s web site as the “acting chief” of the “Second Amendment Section” of the Civil Rights Division.
