NEWS: In Donald Trump's IRS lawsuit, DLA Piper's Chris Oprison and Tal Aburos entered appearances on Tuesday night on behalf of Trump, the other plaintiffs in the case, and Trump's sanctioned lawyers — eight days after Judge Kathleen Williams issued her sanctions order.

The moves suggest an appeal of Williams’s order is coming.

It’s also notable that DLA Piper, a large firm, is apparently taking on the case now. Oprison, a partner listed as being based out of both D.C. and Miami (with a Miami area code phone number listed), previously worked in the White House counsel’s office during the final years of the George W. Bush administration. Aburos is an associate who practices out of Miami.

At the same time, it might be just as notable that no senior litigation or appellate partners at DLA Piper — heads of practice groups and such — have entered appearances, which is not exactly what one would ordinarily expect when a firm takes on representation of the president.
