The next president has to do two things: 1) right the wrongs of Trump and go after those who broke the law and were corrupt. 2). Then spend time divesting power from the presidency and building real guardrails and passing laws like, “the president is not immune” etc.

Breaking: Republican Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine banned, by executive order, gender-affirming surgery for minors, effective immediately.
The move, announced Friday, came a week after DeWine vetoed a bill that would have banned all gender-affirming medical care for minors — including surgery, puberty blockers, or hormones. There is an effort to override the veto, and DeWine’s actions appeared to be a part of an effort to prevent that.
And yet, the moves announced by DeWine on Friday go beyond the legislation he vetoed, affecting adult care as well.
A state rule is also being proposed that would create significant restrictions on care for all ages. A multidisciplinary team would be required for all gender-affirming care — including at least an endocrinologist, bioethicist, and psychiatrist. A “comprehensive care plan,” with informed consent about “risks,” and extensive mental health counseling also would be required under the rule. “It needs to be lengthy and it needs to be comprehensive,” he said.
Another proposed rule would require aggregate, non-identifiable data collection for all gender-affirming care for people of all ages.
There’s some nuance to this. Ban is for under 18 which isn’t apparently being done in the state anyway. He appears to be trying to find a place where his veto won’t be overturned by state Republicans. Not saying this is anything admirable, but just some context to the headline.
I do mention the override concern later in the note.
I see that! I was reacting more to some of the responses elsewhere on the announcement. I know it’s of less importance than the impacts of these laws, but Governor is setting up a power contest moment with Republican leaders in the state to see if they can override the veto.
Whatever one thinks of gender-affirming surgery on minors, it’s asinine for a governor to use his executive power - police power - to ban it. But hey, we gotta keep the masses distracted from real issues - like the ongoing ethnic cleansing in Gaza - by tormenting an infinitesimally small number of people.
The trans crusade is supposed to distract people from Dobbs, which the republicans are actually responsible for. Don't let them change the subject— hammer them on Dobbs.
Ugh. DeWine is not allowing himself to fully accept the vast medical info in favor of gender-affirming care. A blanket refusal to allow minors to have gender firming surgery is just wrong. There will be dead young trans men because of this. And any curtailment of adults rights to decisions about their healthcare with their doctor is just plain outrageous. But this is to be expected from a right wing governor.
