BYD brought a 2710 Ah blade battery cell to the 14th Energy Storage International Summit & Exhibition in Beijing. The next closest was Envision at 790Ah.
CATL showed 587Ah, and CALB with 661Ah. Everyone is building bigger storage cells because fewer parts mean simpler packs and lower cost.
BYD skipped that slow climb and went straight to 2710Ah.
Bigger cells mean less wiring at the pack level. They also mean more heat in one spot. Heat does not spread the same way as capacity grows.
The biggest number is not always the best number in the real world.
