I saw an interesting observation about Martin Scorses and his long-time editor and storytelling collaborator, Thelma Schoonmaker… she has THREE Oscars for editing his films (he has one for directing). The commentator, an editor, pointed out that Schoomaker doesn’t edit for continuity (a bugaboo for early-in-their career editors), she edits for emotion. She’s like, “ I do give a fvck if the hand or cigarette or cup of coffee matches for shot to shot, rather do you FEEL the emotional intension of the moment on the screen.”
