Could be, but I try to never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. Where it really scares me is how few people can read a book, or even a short document, or hw brief a period of dead air leads someone to say "gotta go, things to do," which is horseshit, it's just about getting back to the phone or the TV and smiling at it.
