NEW: As renewed efforts are underway to wrap the MAGA project in explicit religious language, Pope Leo XIV warned Christian politicians on Saturday against the temptation of an “overtly confessional” politics that uses the faith as a tool of ideology.

The remedy, Leo argued, is to return governance to “the people” — what he called “the real antidote to a politics that often shouts, consists only of slogans and is incapable of responding to people's actual needs.”
