Make money doing the work you believe in

I was inspired by Drew Brown’s recent essay and convicted by my own tendency to compare myself to others. I’ve noticed how easy it becomes to play games with the algorithm. Instead of writing what’s on my heart, I think about what will be popular. I worry about people who subscribe or follow and then leave. I’m not doing it; this is my line in the sand.

What you won’t see from me:

• I’m not going to play the outrage game even if it sells. We need calmer nervous systems not more worked up ones.

• I’m ignoring the pressure to comment on every current event. You don’t need my opinion on everything.

And what you will see:

• I’m going to keep walking the awkward middle way of grace and truth—even if it’s uncomfortable and unpopular.

• I’m going to write for the beautiful community I have already and not to try and collect a bigger following.

• I’m going to post goat videos all summer even though this is Substack because everyone needs more goats in their lives.

I love you all! You are the best! 💕
