On Friday in my members call, we tackled Substack as social media. As you can imagine lots of people are so confused about what to use and how to use the social features here.

We brought fresh energy to the possibility of chat, thread posts, ever green posts and quiet Notes.
We explored how each of these opportunities to connect on a deeper level fits with our content eco system in our unique publication and under our writer name and across the other platforms we use and how best to manage it without this happening.

As an Engagement Consultant, here’s what I’ve been doing here on Substack with the social media aspects for over a year now…
Notes - this is my office ‘water cooler’ moment each day to connect with creative colleagues and to share my work sometimes. I also share as much as I can from others I connect with and those in my community because generosity spills out of me that way - I want to. I’m not trying to gain anything. I try to reply to every comment but can’t always.
Chat - this is my paid sub space for ask me anything and Notes engagement. (Mon and Wed). I reply to everything.
Threads - I use this so all the community of Sparkle on Substack can connect on an ‘easy’ topic. I reply to as many as I can and then leave it to my community 4500 people to support each other which they do beautifully.
Ever green posts - I use these to welcome new subscribers into our community, again I reply to every response.

You don’t have to do all of this or any of it or do it in this way but I have built my publication so this work is part of joyful growth and deeper connection with my community.
There’s a shift on all of the above coming soon and I can’t wait to share more about my next strategy for being social on Substack!
