Made me laugh…

(edit - there is much nuance and personal experience in the comments)

If you are trying to grow your Substack on social media here’s what you need to know;

  1. Instagram blocks the word Substack. I use “free read” or “more here” - more on this in my interview with Kat River. If you do a note calling out for Substacker’s who also use IG, you’ll tip the balance because they’ll hopefully like and connect with your posts and recognise the pretty Substack media assets we get to use. See Nicola Washington for more. If you are SUPER keen to make it easy for your audience, ask them for their email in a question box and upload that yourself or use many chat to automatically send them a link.

  2. On twitter (x) you need to talk about your Substack in a video. That’s the only way round it. (Info from Substack HQ)

  3. On Pinterest or YouTube you are good to go! They are both search engines so go wild. Connect to the SEO first and the fact it’s a Substack/ publication/ blog/ newsletter second) see my Pinterest workshop with Sophie Ingleby or SEO workshop with Erica Perry)

  4. I don’t use Facebook but Russell Nohelty has a whole boat load of advice for growing your list there.

  5. Linked IN - I’m not a huge fan but I did set up a group for you all to connect there - just search Substack and it will come up.

In addition, you need to be thinking about how to BE of service, stop the scroll or offer something of value in exchange for an email address.

Did I miss anything?! ✨🙏
