The app for independent voices

What I’d do if I wanted 100 more subscribers (readers) by the end of the year on Substack…

  1. join a community. This offers connection, cheerleading and a place to check in. I love my Sparkle on Substack members chat for this and have also found like minded folks over at Lucy Werner, Beth Kempton, Molly Ella, Emma Gannon, Beth Spencer, Farrah @Substack Suzy Walker spaces. You don’t have to go to zoom calls just connect with folks in the comments/ chat/ see what folks are responding to, meet your kins.

  2. write recommendations for other writers using your recommendations tab liberally. We’re in a practise of doing this every single month. All that’s invested will return!

  3. post a note a day right here - make it engaging, have some chats. Research what to write here by visiting threads or blue sky if you’re stuck.

  4. teach the notes algorithm what you like and spend some time there - 10 mins a day is enough - press some hearts, join in with comments, cheerlead your colleagues.

  5. add your Substack publication url to your email signature

  6. shout a little across your socials - people are watching.

  7. create a “lead magnet” in your Substack welcome email. Tell people they get that when they sign up (mine is a free Substack class and page break canva graphics)

  8. tell your current subscribers you are trying to grow and ask them to share your work in EVERY single post.

  9. make space every day to weave the work in

  10. Oh, and write your heart out. 💞 You’ll know what that means to you. Come along to our Friday writing sessions if you need accountability and a group of supportive pals. We also chat about good lunch a lot. 😅

If this list makes you tired pick one thing to do and embody it, come back to the rest next year?
