Loved seeing Samuel’s Fortress in lake Ohrid, North Macedonia. Legend has it was founded by none other than Cadmus (the Phoenician founder of Thebes) - but the archeology is just as cool! It’s thought to have been initially built by Alexander the Great’s father, Phillip II in the 4th century BC…. Then in the late 900s, King Samuel of Bulgaria restored it in a medieval fortress style, which you can see today:
