A couple of random thoughts about AI, while at sea…

- It is too early to pick winners in the AI labs/LLMs arena… this is still evolving at such a high pace, that your winner from last week may be the loser next. There’s not only one that is good at everything. So I would recommend to keep your mind open at this point.

- People get passionate and attached to brands or vendors and quickly write off other solutions. In the other camp, there is the shiny-object syndrome, where every week someone claims a new “game-changer” tool that everyone needs to try. To me, like with most things in life, the middle ground is the sweet spot.

- There’s a clear distinction right now between what can be done in the individual/ consumer level and Enterprise level. Not all cool tools will translate well to an enterprise environment. And that’s ok. Security, governance, cost control, and integration are some of the blockers I see frequently.

- It is very easy to spot people who have a lot of experience testing the tools for themselves, and that can translate well to individuals and even small businesses; and people who have a systems thinking and know the needs from large organizations. We need both, but they need to be placed at the right spot, because problems start when they are applied in the wrong context.

- Every time I see a post, article, newsletter, claiming “something is DEAD”, I skip it, as the clickbait no longer works for me and my brain is automatically replacing it with “something is EVOLVING”. It is liberating.

- There are no experts in AI at this point, and those that I respect the most, are the ones testing, learning in public, and sharing instead of claiming they know it all.

- AI influencers that copy the latest 10 prompts to do “anything”, 10 tools to do “whatever” to go viral are important to get AI more popularized, but the market, even LinkedIn tends to confuse them with professionals who deeply understand the topic and give them bagdes like “Top Voice”.

- AI is democratizing knowledge and it is a great opportunity for new people to learn fast and share learnings, the main advantage of seasoned professionals is that if they are willing to learn at the same pace, they can spot signals way earlier.

Curious how others are thinking about this right now.
