Today’s gratitude is for my local fruit shop, and the 99c pineapple on the sale table. It’s not just the chance to eat pineapple (which is always something to be thankful for!) but the chance to stop “old” fruit from going in the bin (because ✨heaven forbid✨ people be presented with produce that looks real.

Capitalism and ease of purchase has warped our brains into thinking food nearing its use by date is somehow bad. And corporate greed means multi million dollar supermarket conglomerates would rather throw perishable food away than “lose” money on it.

Tangential to this: when I think about influenzas filming themselves doing weekly restocks of giant fridges for the purpose of administering the mental anaesthesia that is “content”, I think maybe we deserve the word to be swallowed by the sea.

And for that, I’m also reminded to be grateful for writers and activists like my friend Aja Barber, because it’s their work and education that is deprogramming people brainwashed into endless consumption.

Sweet pineapple + affordability = by Grabthar’s hammer, what a savings!
