AMID A CELEBRATION, TROUBLE AHEAD
Video: Chinese-Indonesians whose forefathers would have dated from the Tang, Song or Ming eras more than 1,000 years ago are welcoming their president, in Beijing over Israel and South China Sea. (The shirts the men wear is known as “batik,” a national costume of local floral patterns.)
Indonesia’s Prabowo Subianto (in accord to local customs people address him as “Papa President”) along with Malaysian prime minister Anwar Ibrahim are simultaneously visiting China. A big issue is a Malaysian initiative to table before the UN Security Council & General Assembly a proposed resolution evicting Israel or suspending it from the UN. China has offered to help drive the initiative by mustering its African and Latin American friends to back the resolution.
Another agenda item concerns US interference and instigation that a few days ago produced two Philippine laws claiming, with boundary maps (yet unpublished), nearly all of South China Sea. Those new laws affect both Indonesia and Malaysia for they have similar water territorial claims. They suggest the US, which have a defense pact with Pinoys, will put pressure on Malaysia and Indonesia to negotiate with it or face Philippine occupation of their claimed-islands backed by American military. It is also intended to once and for all break their close relationship with China.
There is trouble ahead. China will have to step in forcefully. Death to America!
