Here's how I actually feed a family while running a food review blog: I buy things I'm going to review anyway, cook them for dinner, take notes while everyone eats, and incorporate the family feedback whether I want it or not. My kids are the most brutally honest focus group in food journalism. They have never once softened a critique. The Shepherd's Pie review was basically written by a 12-year-old who said "this tastes like sadness" and walked away. He was correct.
