This is exciting! Well worth the Restack.
To see other people get deeply involved in local politics - paying attention and delving deeper with Freedom of Information Requests, is just what we need.
It takes a village! I can say the amount of time following all the CVRD, North Cowichan, and Duncan agendas and meetings, is onerous! Hopefully more people delve deeper with FOIAS and attend meetings before the 2026 elections!
We are seeing a trend within the CVRD - LARGE public turnouts, media is faulty, and public input is ignored, for the most part, in the end. (As witnessed in last years budget meeting, the estuary meeting, new garbage demands, and now the last OCP meeting).
I fail to understand WHY anyone would have to put in a Freedom of Information Request for the public meeting around the OCP - but apparently that is what Francis had to do on the public’s behalf.
We attended almost all of the original OCP Town Halls, and heard MANY people push back and ask relevant questions. Back then the OCP was a reasonable size. The new OCP was produced with hundreds and hundreds of pages and the public was given almost no time to read it. These videos show the overwhelming public opinion that the OCP was not accepted as is, and within the timeline presented.
All walks of life and demographics came out to speak and wrote e-mails to the Directors stating their dissatisfaction with the process, as well as the OCP in general.
The OCP was voted through on a slim 5-4 vote - (Acton, McClinton, Wilson, and Morrison opposed)
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from our COAP families to yours!
