I SEE YOU, RACHEL
I find there are too many folk
offering you the benefits of their education
the vagaries of their experience
without understanding their journey is not yours.
* * *
The advice they proudly profess
is a product of a singular moment for
an individual and as such may share the experience
but not the result.
* * *
I long for stories which don’t tell us
what to do, or how to do it.
But the struggle writ large:
a protagonist wrestling their life
into alignment with their efforts.

Whenever I think of writing, the Muppets come to mind.
The Magnificent Mumford is the poster child
for the ambitious, the creative, the exploratory
more concerned with process than result.

Mumford reminds me
it’s not the magic
that matters,
it’s the wonder of trying.
