Alice in Wonderland. A private commission. This little watercolor shows the inspirations for the original Alice, the little brunette Alice Liddell, and Mary Hilton Badcock, the inspiration for original Alice illustrator John Tenniel. The final picture is my rendition of Tenniel’s version of Alice. This was done in the sketchbook of passionate Alice collector Karen Green, Curator for Comics and Cartoons at Columbia University. There’s some debate that Tenniel never used a model. I don’t care to deep dive into that. Whatever.
