Is consciousness like a light switch, you don't have it until enough clicks then it's there? We see our consciousness as a benchmark, but it took hundreds of thousands of years, if not millions to develope.

A new being might experience it differently, flickers, moments of a type of inner experience, that is not nearly as refined or comparable to what we have.
